★ Course Overview ★
Welcome to American Culture, English and Society! I am Dr. Wen Ma, an English Language Fellow (on sabbatical leave from my tenured position as a Professor of Education at Le Moyne College). I was originally an international student from China. After obtaining my Ph.D. in English Education, I became a teacher educator at Le Moyne, located in Syracuse, NY. Over the past 20 years, I have taught a dozen education courses required for New York State teacher certification, served on the editorial review board of refereed journals, edited books, and organized international conferences. My current research interests include using participatory dialogue as an instructional tool, teaching strategies for ELA and content areas, Eastern and Western learning cultures, and teacher education. My own cross-cultural journey showcases that America is a land of opportunities, where diverse people, ideas and practices co-exist, interact, integrate, and transform into new possibilities. The English Language Fellowship is one of the educational exchange programs funded by the US State Department, and its objectives are to teach English and promote cross-cultural communication and understanding. In the next ten months, I will offer weekly professional development workshops/classes on American culture, language and society at Kaohsiung Medical University. The purpose of these workshops/classes is help KMU’s English as the Medium of Instruction (EMI) programs. ▎報名資格 Register
(1) 開放全校在校學生報名參加，並依報名順序優先錄取。
All Kaohsiung Medical University students can participate.
(2)參加5堂(含)以上課程，將頒發AIT(美國在臺協會)課程認證證書。
Attending 5 or more (including 5) sessions will be awarded with the AIT (American Institute in Taiwan) Course Certification.
(3)若有意願擔任EMI TA，需參加兩場則符合資格。
Students who are interested in serving as EMI TAs and wish to attend the Leadership Training course are eligible upon completion of two sessions.
※每場上限20人，因課程內容與教室調整人數上限，以錄取通知信為主 (每場活動前一週寄發錄取通知信)
The maximum capacity is 20 participants, and the number of participants may be adjusted based on the course content and classroom capacity. Admission priority will be given to those who receive an acceptance notification. (Send a notification letter one week before the event.)

▎實施方式 Regulation
(1)參加完一場並填寫完滿意度調查，可累積點數1點。
Attending and completing a satisfaction survey after each session will earn you 1 point, which can be accumulated.
(2)個人累積2點兌換100元禮卷或等值獎勵；累積4點兌換500元禮卷或等值獎勵
Accumulate 2 points to redeem TWD 100 voucher/cash ; Accumulate 4 points to redeem TWD 500 voucher/cash.
(3)如12:30前未到場參加，將視同無故未到，並於無故未到兩場，則取消後續錄取場次。
If you do not attend by 12:30, it will be considered an unexcused absence. After two unexcused absences, your sessions will be canceled.
(4)因每場活動均有提供膳食，為避免資源浪費，報名成功後若因故無法參加，請於活動開始前三天告知行政窗口
Since meals are provided for each event, to avoid resource wastage, if you are unable to attend after successful registration, please notify the administration office at least three days before the event starts due to unforeseen circumstances.
(5)為避免錄取後未出席或佔用名額影響其他同學權益等情況發生，錄取後無故未到累積兩次者，或請假累積超過四次者，將停權醫學院EMI舉辦之學生活動一學期。
If accepted students fail to attend or occupy slots that affect the rights of other students, they will not be able to participate in student activities organized by the College of Medicine EMI for one semester if they accumulate unexcused absences twice or exceed four accumulated leaves.
