Stanford Student’s Inspiring Internship Experience at KMU Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital
Alina Wilson, a Human Biology major from Stanford University, embarked on an immersive internship at Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital. As a premedical student preparing for medical school, Alina’s time at KMU was an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic clinical setting.
✨ Highlights from her experience:
- Participated in clinical rotations across infectious disease, obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN), and traditional Chinese medicine
- Attended medical lectures and reviewed case studies alongside KMU students
- Designed a clinical research proposal on comorbidities associated with cytomegalovirus end-organ disease in AIDS patients
- Learned to operate the da Vinci robotic surgery devices, receiving a private demonstration from a urologist and engaging in multiple simulations
Despite facing a language barrier, Alina found the experience deeply rewarding:
"The physicians and students did their best to translate for me, and I also studied Chinese while in Taiwan. Despite the language differences, I learned a lot."
Her internship at KMU not only reaffirmed her passion for medicine but also highlighted the importance of learning public health strategies from different healthcare systems. She gained valuable insights into infection control strategies and Taiwan’s COVID-19 response, shaping her global perspective on medicine.

史丹佛學生在高醫中和紀念醫院的醫學實習體驗
來自史丹佛大學人類生物學系的Alina Wilson 在高雄醫學大學附設中和紀念醫院展開了一場充實的醫學見習之旅。作為一名準備申請醫學院的學生，Alina在高醫的見習經歷對她而言是難能可貴的機會，讓她深入了解醫學領域的實務運作。
見習亮點：
- 參與感染科、婦產科及中醫的臨床見習，親身體驗不同科別的診療流程
- 與高醫醫學生一起上課，研討病患案例，並學習臨床診療
- 撰寫關於愛滋病患者巨細胞病毒終末器官病變共病關聯性的臨床研究計畫
- 學習操作達文西機器手臂，並在泌尿科醫師的指導下進行模擬手術訓練
