Visit the School of Medicine of Tokyo Medical University

In order to strengthen cooperation with the Partner Universities in Japan, in April 2024, KMU College of Medicine arranged to visit the School of Medicine of Keio University, the School of Medicine of Tokyo Medical University, and the Faculty of Medicine of Kobe University. These are also the popular options where our medical students go for internships.

On the morning of April 8, we visited the School of Medicine of Tokyo Medical University. Tokyo Medical University signed an MOU with KMU in 2020 and attaches great importance to our visit. President Yukiko Hayashi, Vice President Hiroshi Mitoma, Prof. Takako Kojima, the Director of the International Department, and Prof. Norihiko Ikeda, the Head of the Surgery Department, gave us a warm welcome together when we arrived. They introduced the school’s medical cirriculum and research, and accompanied us to visit their new hospital. The new hospital is well planned and separates the flow of medical staff and patients. It also owns multiple comfortable coffee shops so that patients can sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee relaxedly while waiting. Served with desserts co-branded with the century-old restaurant COLOMBIN makes people forget their pain.

Tokyo Medical University was founded in 1916. It is a long-standing and top-ranked private university in Japan, focusing on the development of medical education. The school upholds the spirit of "患者とともに歩む医療人を育てる" (nurturing medical professionals who move forward hand in hand with patients) and continues to devote in the field of medicine.

Tokyo Medical University has three medical institutions, namely the medical centers in Hachioji and Ibaraki, and the University Hospital located in Shinjuku District together with the campus.

Tokyo Medical University Hospital focuses on contributing to high quality and innovation, and its achievements in medical technology development and training speak for itself. The hospital is only about a five-minute drive from the transportation hub Shinjuku Station. Shinjuku District is one of the three major sub-city centers in Tokyo. The living area is lined with various department stores, trending brands, and restaurants. It is a gathering of prosperity and fashions in Tokyo, allowing people to have a taste of the convenient living circle and thriving city scene of Japan.

We hope that the close ties between the two universities will promote extensive exchanges of student education and research and build a good foundation for international cooperation.
