Visit the School of Medicine of Keio University
On the afternoon of April 8, our delegation paid a visit to the School of Medicine of Keio University. Prof. Takanori Kanai, Dean of the School of Medicine, alongside Prof. Junji Haruta, spared their time to personally greet us from their busy schedules. Prof. Junji Haruta is going to give a talk at the 2024 International Conference on Medical Education hosted by KMU on June 1.
The representatives discussed the academic exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. Keio University has outstanding achievements in teaching and research. Its founder, Prof. Fukuzawa Yukichi, was the father of modern education in Meiji Japan. His portrait is currently printed on the front of the 10,000 yen banknote. After the meeting, Keio University arranged two student ambassadors from their medical school along with the staff from the international office to show us around Keio University Hospital. The hospital combines AI technology with automatic navigation wheelchairs to allow patients with limited mobility to find their way smoothly.
Since 1858, a small school that initiated Western-style education in Japan has gradually grown into the prestigious Keio University today, with a history of more than 160 years. Keio's main campus is the Mita Campus in Minato-ku, Tokyo. In addition, the school owns many educational institutions, ranging from primary school students to graduate students, with a total number of about 40,000. Keio University was Japan's first private higher education institution and is now a growing comprehensive research university, committing fully to the development of education, research, and medicine. The founder, Fukuzawa Yukichi, focused on " Jitsugaku “, which emphasized the practical learning ability to find scientific truth and solve problems. Keio University passed on this educational spirit and continues to spare no effort in nurturing the future generation.
Keio University Hospital is located in Shinano-cho, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. The area is at the heart of the modern city. And with the extensive transportation network, people can easily travel around and enjoy Tokyo. The hospital has made remarkable achievements in the field of medical technology innovation. In addition to actively introducing medical robots to practical use, the hospital also renovates its equipment and buildings consistently. As Japan's core clinical research hospital, it has been widely recognized at home and abroad.
To take clerkship rotations at Keio University Hospital, the students can not only take advantage of the rich learning resources, but also enjoy the delightful and convenient leisure life. We look forward to promoting strong interactions between the two universities in both academic and cultural fields.
