Visit the Faculty of Medicine of Kobe University

Our delegation visited the Faculty of Medicine of Kobe University on April 11. Prof. Takamichi Murakami, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Yoshimasa Maniwa, University Vice President and Superintendent of the University Hospital, Prof. Ikuo Shoji, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Masakazu Shinohara from the Graduate School of Medicine warmly received us and arranged us to visit the hospital operating room after the meeting.

Kobe University originated from the second public higher commercial school in Japan, Kobe Higher Commercial School, which was established in 1902. After several mergers, it gradually grew into a comprehensive national university with ten colleges and fifteen departments. The school occupies a pivotal academic position in Kansai region, Japan. Kobe University not only focuses on education and research, but also lists social contribution as a key vision goal of the school. In addition to teaching, it also expects students to apply what they have learned and actively participate in industry-university cooperation and exchange activities.

Kobe University is located in Kobe City, the earliest port city opened during the Meiji Restoration in Japan. The busy Port of Kobe and its bay culture have made the city famous for its diversity and internationality. In recent years, it has also actively developed the medical industry. Kobe City is the seventh most populous city in Japan, providing complete amenities and creating a unique atmosphere of freedom.

The Kobe University Hospital was established earlier than the university, originating from the Kobe Hospital opened in 1869. The University Hospital is a specialized hospital concentrating on cardiovascular medicine, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic surgery. In recent years, they have committed to the development of surgical robots. In order to reduce the damage caused by surgery, they actively use "Da Vinci" arm robots for surgery. They continue to make innovations in medical technology breakthroughs.

We hope that through the partnership with the Kobe University Faculty of Medicine, the teachers and students of the two universityies will be able to fully experience international cooperation and cross-cultural interactions, and to build a stable and friendly bridge of exchanges.
